Launching Our New Music School

The Backbeat Music School offers a unique opportunity to all young aspiring musicians 14+. We offer classes in Guitar/Bass/Drums and Vocals. Each session happens over 2 hours, in the first hour each tutor focuses on the students instrument of choice with the final hour focusing on performance and working together as a band. Our goal is to give young musicians the opportunity to learn and jam in a group setting, invaluable if they are in a band or looking to start or join a band.

The entire course leads towards performance on the Phoenix theatre's stage to an invited audience at the end of term. This is a course designed to make music and playing in a band fun, and boost your confidence as a performer, and developing skill and experience with your chosen instrument. New songs are chosen every term offering new challenges as a performer and offering more insights as the year progresses.

Student work on 3 to 4 songs during the 10 week term, polishing their musical and technical ability as well as building solid performance skills. Each student will learn how to play and/or sing each part, as well as working on the technical development and stagecraft. The songs chosen will be challenging, but students will be supported and shown how to approach guitar solos, key vocal parts and more syncopated drum routines. Stagecraft and presentation are very much an important part of this course, students learn how to "sell" their performance and build rapport with the audience.

LESSON OVERVIEW

Hour 1 - Students get split into their instrument groups with a skilled tutor. In this first session they will look at and learn the skills and techniques required for that week's songs. This allows the student to study their chosen discipline and work on their individual skills, building confidence in their technical ability.

Hour 2 - Students then come together and work as a band. Rehearsing the songs together as well as looking at performance techniques. This further builds confidence within the students and allows them to refine and develop strong stagecraft and performance skills. There will also be opportunities for end of term Showcases and we have built a wide network offering the students performances at local events to put their talents to use in front of live audiences. We believe it is the most comprehensive music tuition programme locally, built on years of teaching experience and professional engagements.
